They were meant to be
Grew up together and they fell in love
At the beggining of thier senior year he decided as soon as he had his diploma he was going to sign up
He wanted to serve his country
She understood
They made a promise to stay together through it.
He wrote letters everyday, even though they were a week behind
She was thrilled everytime she got one.
One day she was visiting his parents and there was a knock at the door
She and his mother answered the door.
"i'm very sorry" said the man in the uniform as he handed over dogtags and a telegram
She feels as if shes breaking, and cries until there are no more tears
His mother gives her his dogtags she says that he would want her to have them
That night when she gets home, she checks her mail
There is another letter
It is dated the day he died.
As she reads it she smiles at the fact that he was happy his last day
When she got to the last line of the last page it reads,
"now don't answer this now, but I have to ask, Will you marry me?"
All of the tears that she tought were gone spilled over and she grabbed his dogtags that rested around her neck and whispered,"Yes"
